Entry #3: "I Wish You Love"

Hey! Hope you're all doing well and had a great week! I'm not gonna lie, I struggled a bit with this weeks blog. I listen to many different artist and genres of music, so it was hard to just pick one to analyze. I could analyze all my favorite songs if I could. BUT! I did choose a song from one of my current favorite artist: Laufey. She's an artist from Iceland that started posting her music during the pandemic. And since then, her music has pooped off and has gained thousands of fans. Her music is a mixture of jazz and pop which isn't very common in todays artist. The song I chose to analyze is "I Wish You Love".

The songs starts of with :
I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
And then a kiss, but more than this
I wish you love
The phrase "I wish you love" is repeated often in the song. The phrase is said after giving a scenario and hoping they are being taken care of. For example, wishing they are kept warm during the cold.
My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be
So, with my best, my very best
I set you free
She talks about although it hurts and breaks her heart how they won't be able to be together, instead of resentment, she wishes them love and the best.

You may be wondering who 'they' are and who Laufey is singing this to. While there isn't a specific person, it is essentially directed to a person who you love but you aren't able to be with. The song talk about letting someone go without any hatred. Normally, when people break up, it is common for both parties to hate each other and 'pray on their downfall' in a way. But Laufey says its better to let them go than live with that resentment. They could be living their best life while you're just stuck being angry at them for leaving. So it's better to let them go and wish them the best, so that you can be content with yourself and live a good life as well.

Laufey's tone throughout the song was very gentle and empathetic. There was no hint of any anger throughout the song. She sounded very accepting, accepting the fact that they can't be together. Then happily, although it hurt, wished the person well. With her using that tone, it gave the song a calm and warm feeling. making the listener feel nice and content when listening to the song

I love to listen to her music because they give me a nice feeling. In a way where I like to listen to her music while looking out the window during a car ride. So, I definitely recommend listening to her music. Hope you enjoyed this weeks blog, and we'll see each other next time!
